Burke Shire experienced a Monsoonal Flooding event in early 2023 when the Albert River Reached over 7 metres, exceeding the 2011 recorded flood level of 6.8 metres.
Most of Burketown Residents, some Gregory Residents and many of the surrounding stations in Burke Shire were forced to evacuate to Mount Isa or elsewhere outside the shire. The Burke Shire community is continuing to recover from the event.
